Bill Hader has his own story about a strange encounter with Martin Kove, which is resurfacing after the Cobra Kai alum was removed from a fan event Sunday for biting costar Alicia Hannah-Kim.

The former Saturday Night Live star told Marc Maron on a 2013 episode of his WTF podcast that the incident happened when he was 20, which would have been in the late ʼ90s. The future Emmy winner’s job was driving Kove to a set each day.

“I’m driving him around in my s–ty car, and he got me lost on purpose,” Hader said. “He hadn’t read the script yet, so he was like, ‘Nah, you don’t take this. You take Havenhurst. What are you getting on the 405 for? And I had like a Thomas Guide on my lap.”

Hader said that after arriving late, he was “screamed at” by his boss and ended up having a “terrible day.” But it wasn’t over yet.

“On the way back, we’re driving,” Hader said. “It’s at night, and we’re driving down the freeway. He was like, ‘Bill, are you mad at me?’”

Hader said he wasn’t upset, but he recalled that Kove wouldn’t let it go. He asked more than once whether Hader wanted a milkshake or a cookie.

“This is the guy from Karate Kid. This is my first Hollywood experience,” Hader said. “He goes, ‘There’s a McDonald’s right up here. Pull over, and we’ll get you a cookie. We’ll get a milkshake.’”

But the stop didn’t go as planned.

“He comes back out eating the chocolate cookie and the milkshake. And he just sits in the back and goes, ‘Come on, let’s go,’” Hader said. “It was the biggest f— you.”

Hader had another phrase for it, too.

“It was a weird mind f— of, like, ‘I’m gonna get you this thing,’ and then he ate it in front of me,” Hader said. “And then I just drove home in silence.”

But then he had to go back.

“Yeah, I drove him to work every day. And I didn’t talk to him after that,” Hader said. “I just kind of stared straight ahead.”

Still, Hader gave was willing to give Kove a pass, because he thought he’d heard the actor was going a rough time in her personal life.

“He might be a really nice guy, but I just, for some reason, I rubbed him the wrong way,” Hader said. “I don’t know what was going on.”

Kove, who portrayed baddie John Kreese in The Karate Kid and its sequels, was “escorted out” of the Washington State Summer Con in Puyallup, after Hannah-Kim told police that he bit her when she went to greet him.

“I walked past Martin Kove, tapped him on the shoulder and said hello & he turned around grabbed my arm and BIT DOWN HARD almost drawing blood,” Hannah-Kim explained in a handwritten statement to police. “I yelped and drew back and then he grabbed my arm again to kiss it.”

Hannah-Kim declined to file charges against Kove, who told police that they “play fight all the time on the set.” The actress portrayed formidable sensei Kim Da-Eun on the Netflix series that ended in February after six seasons.

Kove issued a public apology on Tuesday, in which he said that “deeply regretted” his actions. He said he was “being playful in the moment but went too far and there is absolutely no excuse” for his behavior. He also said “Alicia [is] a genuinely kind and wonderful person who didn’t deserve to be put in this position.”
